The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik as a witness in an alleged corruption case involving Reliance General Insurance. The agency has asked for his presence at its guesthouse in central Delhi on April 28 for questioning.
The case pertains to a medical insurance scheme for Jammu and Kashmir government employees and their families, which was rolled out in September 2018 by Reliance General Insurance and Trinity Reinsurance Brokers. The scheme was cancelled within a month by Mr Malik, who had alleged fraud.
According to the CBI’s first information report (FIR), Reliance General Insurance and Trinity Reinsurance Brokers are accused in the alleged scam. Mr Malik had cancelled the contract when he was the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir in 2018.
The CBI had earlier spoken with Mr Malik in September last year for more information about the allegations he made against the insurance firms, and also in connection with another case of alleged corruption in giving the contract for civil work at Kiru hydroelectric power project.
